The Autonomous Lander element of NASA's Project Pathfinder will provide the technology required to ensure a safe landing at geologically interesting sites, which are often hazardous, for a variety of potential science missions. These technologies will also support autonomous re-supply operations for a Lunar outpost and reduce risks for piloted Lunar and Mars landing operations. The program will focus on the development of terminal descent strategies and trajectory algorithms, as well as on guidance, navigation and control designs, software and sensors.
