Title : New Zealand

Caption :

This somewhat cloudy true-color image of New Zealand shows the seasonal variability of the islands that make up this country off the southeast coast of Australia. Along the southwestern margin of South Island at the center of the image run the snow-covered Southern Alps. The Alps run diagonally northeastward. At the time of this image (June 1, 2001), the summer hemisphere was entering winter, but the lower elevations were still apparently thick with vegetation. On North Island, at upper right, the snow filled crater of the Mt. Egmont Volcano is visible.
